The life story of a true master horseman is published by Chiselbury
Chiselbury, the independent publisher, is pleased to announce that it has published ‘A Word Before I Go’ by John Honeyball.
If ever the phrase master horseman was to apply to anyone, it would apply to John Honeyball. He was born into a middle class family in Croydon which had no connections with anything equine. Yet from the earliest age – gee-gee was the word that he spoke – he was drawn into the world of horses.
This short book tells the story of his love affair with horses – and of their love and respect for him. From learning to ride on a farm in East Grinstead, he ended up being a Master of Hounds and one of the leading show judges in the country. Along the way it was Honeyball who transformed that famous racehorse The Dikler into the Gold Cup winner that he became – in his obituary the Racing Post even went so far as to describe him as ‘the man who tamed The Dikler’.
This a book for people who love horses and their way of life. It also tells of a different, but not so long ago, world.
It was originally privately published in 2011 and is now available for the general public for the first time.
Commenting on the announcement, Stuart Leasor, founder of Chiselbury, said, “To have been able to publish the story of the man who tamed The Dikler is a personal delight. This was the horse that I placed my first bet on – half a crown at a point to point at the age of 10. I remember it particularly because the bookie refused to pay out on my win since he knew that I couldn’t complain. I saw The Dikler run many other times, both in person and on TV and used to marvel at how he was kept on the straight and narrow. Having read this book, I now know why.”
‘A Word Before I Go’ is now available in hardback (ISBN: 978-1-916556-21-8), paperback (ISBN: 978-1-916556-26-3) and ePub/Kindle from https://www.chiselbury.co.uk/bookstore, Amazon and all good bookshops
